Mother's Day

Children are a heritage from the LORD,
the fruit of the womb a reward.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior
are the children of one’s youth.
Blessed is the man
who fills his quiver with them!
Psalm 127

Children are a blessing from the Lord. Having a house full of them, I don't always act and treat them like that. Earlier this week, I was reading (I mean skimming because of all the little people around me) this article. I don't yell at my kiddos all the time but I am guilty of it sometimes, some days more than others. I took comfort in the fact that it wasn't just me. If there's a New York Times article about it, lots of people must do it:)

As I was thinking about Mother's Day, I decided that I didn't want to get in the rut of focusing on myself and if I was being pampered enough. So, tonight as I was thinking about how much I love being a mom, I really do, even if it's crazy around here. I love being a mom because I have incredible children. Really, they're each individually cool people. They're funny, smart and really cute.

In life I tend to enjoy quality time with people. I love sitting down and having one-on-one conversations, laughing and talking about real things. Well, around here, it's hard to have one-on-one time with anyone. If I'm talking to one kid another one is usually interrupting. If I'm cuddling with one, another one usually joins. I love this, I love that my kids love each other and that we have a quiver full of kids. But sometimes being alone with one is such a blessing.

So, I decided that tomorrow is going to be date day. I'm going to go on a date with each of my kids and spend some quality time with each of them. With Michael coaching 2 soccer teams right now, life is really busy. He's often gone until late at night so there isn't much one-on-one time going on around here. It's more like 4-on-1. Anyway, tomorrow should be fun. I'm excited to hang with each of the kids. I got a good start to my mother's day tonight when Michael and I listened to a sermon and folded lots of laundry together :)

  2. JP & I think that is a wonderful idea! Your kids are each incredible individuals - and you being their mom is a big part of that! (The other part is, of course, Michael being their dad.
Thank you for letting us be a part of your lives.
